Born in the transcendental woods of Western Massachusetts, I grew up in the small city of Providence, RI. In 1990 I attended The Art Institute of Boston where I studied photography. In 1993 I moved to San Francisco and studied painting at The San Francisco Art Institute, one of the oldest art schools in the country, walking the steep streets everyday from the Bay Bridge to Chestnut Hill to paint in studios overlooking the city and the bay. I loved the Eucalyptus filled woods of Golden Gate park and ferry rides across the cold misty bay to Sausalito. In the late 1990's I moved to South Florida and began mural and finish work while exploring my own new and emerging interest in Contemporary Realism. I love the art of realism. Recreating life with the simple tools of a brush and good paint. The subtle changes in light and color and shape that create the visual world we live in. And so this is how it goes.. The artist jumps into the river of creation and mimics the creator and inspiration freely flows. Today I paint full time, my husband is a graphic designer and sculptor and my 19 year old son is studying animation at Savannah College of Art and Design.

The history of painting in oil paint is old and rich and undoubtedly one of my favorite things about it. Painting in oils was originally a Dutch breakthrough in the 15th Century. Mixing finely ground raw pigment with linseed or walnut oil, the Dutch painter Jan van Eyck was a pioneer in the alchemy of paint. Oil releases the properties of the of the colors making them richer and denser with a luminosity and depth that is far more beautiful then modern day acrylic paint made of plastic. I paint primarily with Gamblin, Windsor Newton and Old Holland Fine Pigment Oil Paint on canvas, linen and hardwood Panel.
I am spellbound by the color blue. The twilight blue of the early night sky set against the glowing light of illuminated windows. The vibrant bright blue of midday. I am spellbound by the color blue. The twilight blue of the early night sky set against the glowing light of illuminated windows. The vibrant bright blue of midday. The fluid jewel tone blues of water… in pools, the ocean, underwater. I love to paint figures moving through the buoyancy of water, bodies without gravity, the closest we can get to our primordial state. Vintage Cars A long standing inspiration for me is vintage cars, mostly because they are a work of art. For years my husband had a bright red 1976 vintage BMW 2002 and the feeling it evoked of the 1970’s, the decade I was born, spoke to me. The smell of old leather, the sound of the engine, the chrome set against highly pigmented paint. The way it looked with the environment around it, somehow improving it. The design, shape and vibrant colors all reflecting the mood and trends of a particular decade. Classic cars are about an idea, a snapshot in time.
